FMS Testing in Belgrade - Functional Movement Assessment

FMS testing (Functional Movement Screen) is a standardized assessment that uses seven movements to reveal imbalances, mobility restrictions and patterns that increase the risk of injury. At Dynamic Fizio in Dorcol, we carry out the FMS test to get a clear picture of how your body functions during movement, not just at rest. The result is not only a number, but a concrete basis for an exercise and rehabilitation plan tailored specifically to you.

What is FMS testing

The Functional Movement Screen is a system of seven movement tests that assesses the quality of basic movement patterns: the deep squat, the hurdle step, the in-line lunge, shoulder mobility, the active straight-leg raise, trunk stability in the push-up and rotary stability. Each movement combines joint mobility, stability and control, so the screen quickly shows where the weak link is.

Each test is scored from 0 to 3, where 0 means pain during the movement and 3 a clean movement without compensation. The maximum total is 21 points. In practice, a score of 14 or lower is taken as the threshold that indicates an increased risk of injury, so such a finding calls for targeted correction.

Who it is for

Movement assessment is useful for recreational and professional athletes who want to reduce the risk of injury and improve performance, but also for anyone returning to training after a break or injury. If you feel that something is limiting you in squatting, running or lifting, the FMS test shows whether the cause lies in mobility, stability or coordination.

Movement screening is also useful as a starting point in rehabilitation, because it helps direct exercises precisely at the patterns that deviate. Repeating the test later clearly shows the progress made.

How FMS testing works

The test takes about 15 to 20 minutes and requires no special preparation; comfortable sportswear in which you can move freely is enough. The therapist guides you through all seven movements, observes the performance on both sides of the body and records the scores, including any asymmetries and the appearance of pain. Based on the total and the individual findings, you receive an explanation of the results and recommendations for corrective exercises.
